ArtiSUN in the News

“Upon entering ArtiSUN, you will find that this is not a stuffy fine art gallery. The heavy air of pretension that pervades some galleries does not exist here. Everything in this delightful atmosphere attests to the magic and wonder of our majestic homeland in the Appalachian mountains… ArtiSun is home to more than fifty local artists’ work, and is making its name among Western North Carolina’s precious gems … Along with Sunny’s hospitality, this space offers an exciting viewing experience with its brilliant collage of artwork elicited by the beauty of this region. Digital photography, oil paintings, fabric art, pottery, wooden ‘tree people,’ gnome homes, handmade jewelry, baskets, lotion and cleaning products (and much more) cover the walls and hardwood floors of this enchanting space …. “

“Sunny Riggs didn’t have a chance when she emerged from the woods and into Hot Springs after three long, hard, sweaty, life-altering weeks on the Appalachian Trail.  It was 2002, and the 48-year-old was hiking the entire length of the country’s longest marked footpath from Springer Mountain, Ga., to Mount Katahdin, Maine, a trip that would take seven months. But when she popped out on the section that runs right through the heart of Hot Springs, she got sucked into what is known as ‘the Hot Springs’ vortex.’

“I kept trying to leave, but I couldn’t,” said Riggs, then a Floridian hiking for the first time in her life, usually in a dress, wearing nail polish and mascara. “I fell in love with the town and the people. It just felt like home.”  Nine years later, Riggs is owner of the ArtiSun Gallery and Marketplace in Hot Springs, now a permanent resident in her “forever home” that felt so welcoming all those years ago.
